Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the government and law enforcing agencies were taking serious measures to control criminal activities in Karachi. “Efforts are being made to restore peace in Karachi,” he said.
He said that several meetings had been held with law enforcing agencies and stakeholders to improve law and order situation in the mega city. “We are deeply concerned about the law and order situation in Karachi and the government is taking stringent measures against the miscreants without any discrimination,” he told a private television channel.
To a question, he said that there were a number of issues which need to be tackled with collective efforts. He said that Karachi was facing issues of ethnic and sectarian tensions, extremism and extortion of money. He said that a task force had been established to deal with extortion mafia which was targeting innocent people and traders of Karachi.
The minister said certain elements wanted to derail peace in Karachi and destabilise Pakistan but they would not achieve success in their nefarious designs. “We are collecting information against the elements involved in sabotaging peace of Karachi and action will be taken without any discrimination,” he added.
After coming into power, Malik said that Pakistan People’s Party government had to face a number of problems. He said the president and the prime minister were very serious to bring normalcy to Karachi and several meetings were held to improve situation without any further delay.
He said it was responsibility of all political parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and citizens to come forward to work for welfare and progress of the country. Malik urged media to play effective role in campaign against extortion mafia to save people from criminal activities.
The minister asked people to provide information against the miscreants and anti-social elements so that quick action could be taken against them. He said that the PPP government introduced reforms in FATA to improve socio-economic conditions in the tribal areas.

Give us a break Mr Rehman Malik. You will never be able to control the situation because of the simple reason you keep mincing words about the perpetrators and would never call spade a spade. Your main effort is to appease your guru Altaf Hussain. You keep telling people that it was bhatta mafia which was reponsible for spiralling violence in Karachi for last many days You very well know that the gunmen belong to an ethnic party who has kept whole of Sindh hostage. You should have gone to the inhabitants of Chakra goth who happen to be sindhis and Balochs and were subjected to indiscriminate firing by thugs of the party who is most dear to you, more dear than the PPP to which you belong. Your loyalties lie with thugs of this particular ethnic party. Two of the thugs are injured and apparently under custody of police and I am sure you will let them off the hook.

If heads do not roll taking responsibility then Hakoomat e Waqt should
do something taking befitting action against criminals who has shattered the writ of state indiscriminately as apathy and continuos senseless killing is damaging the national psyche.

Please count bodies in Edhi center and you will find who is suffering the most. Its poor pathan vendors and downtrodden urdu speaking public that are dying. This is unfortunate that such wild claims are made while thugs from Lyari rule the roost. It is important that claims against a certain group should be substantiated. Who knows who is doing these killings elsewhere and you continue to pour oil on fire instead of POURING water. R u friend of Pakistan or what?
