Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Controller of Examinations Muhammad Imran Khan Chishti on Thursday announced the result of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC)-II Home Economics Annual Examinations 2011. According to details, 266 candidates were registered for the examination, whereas 264 students appeared, of which 175 were declared pass. The overall pass percentage was 66.29 percent. Insiya Juzer Diwan of Rana Liaquat Ali Khan Government College of Home Economics clinched the first position with 984 marks out of total 1200 (82 percent). Moreover, Urooba Nadeem and Wajiha Jamal of the same college bagged the second and third positions with 982 marks (81.83 percent) and 978 marks (81.5 percent) respectively. Four candidates scored A-1 grade, whereas 26 secured A grade in the exam. Furthermore, 42 candidates received B grade, whereas 64 C grade. As many as 37 candidates got D grade and two E grade. Diwan told this scribe that she intends to seek a career in Food and Nutrition. “During studies we cover every aspect of life and study subjects of science and arts at the same time. Studying home economics helps young girls a lot; it teaches many things to them which could be utilised at professional and domestic level,” she remarked. Jamal stressed upon the government to increase the funding for the college. “The electricity of the college remained suspended for several months due to non-payment of bills. The connection was resumed after clearance of the utility charges, but it took a lot of time and students and teachers suffered,” she said. “We do not have gas connection at the college and use gas cylinders, which are dangerous as well as expensive. Although, teachers manage refilling the gas cylinders from the college funds, but there should be a proper gas line for the college,” she added.
