Mark Wahlberg was left £333,333 out of pocket by the time he finished filming ‘The Fighter’ – because he spent more money preparing for the role than he was earning.
The Hollywood actor took a massive pay cut to play real life boxing star ‘Irish’ Micky Ward in the biopic and he blew his salary on paying personal trainers to teach him how to fight. Wahlberg ended up losing money by the time filming finished, but he has no regrets about taking such a financial risk on the low-budget film.
He tells, “I spent more money paying my trainers and having them travel with me than I got paid, by a good half a million dollars.” But Wahlberg’s gamble appears to have paid off – he received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in The Fighter.
The film will also compete in the Best Picture (Drama) category, while director David O. Russell and Wahlberg’s co-star Christian Bale also received nominations.
