Court indicts DSP, SI, constable for muder

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Sheraz Kiani indicted District Superintendent Police (DSP) Riasat Bajwa, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Riaz, Constables Muhammad Asif and Abdul Qadir on Wednesday for murdering Shahbaz Butt in a staged police encounter.
The accused denied the charges put against them so the court summoned prosecution witnesses for August 24.
A few weeks ago Shahbaz Butt was arrested for robbinh Rs 35000 from Makkah Medical Store in Yuhanabad. Sub-Inspector Riaz allegedly took Shahbaz in custody and he was later murdered in a police encounter near Rohi Nala within less than an hour of having been arrested.
When the media highlighted the encounter, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Major (r) Mubashir Ullah held an inquiry of the matter on the orders of the Punjab inspector general (IG) and a case had been registered under sections 302/34 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the four accused police officials.
The court also adjourned the hearing of the post-arrest bail application filed by DSP Riasat Bajwa till August 20.
SHO robs dress designer: Additional District and Sessions Judge Munir Ahmed on Wednesday sought comments of station house officer (SHO) for August 25 on a petition seeking the registration of a case against an adviser to the Punjab governor allegedly involved in raiding a tailor’s shop and snatching money from him.
The petitioner contended that he had stitched 35 suits worth Rs 415,000 while the SHO had paid him only Rs 84,000.
