4m affectees still without shelter: UN

ISLAMABAD: Almost 50 percent funds earmarked for Pakistan’s flood victims have been received by the United Nations (UN) whereas approximately 4 million affectees still need shelter, Stacey Winston, spokesperson of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said in a press briefing.
Amjad Jamal, spokesman of the World Food Programme (WFP), said WFP had provided food to 6 to 7 million people for a month whereas food was provided for 2 months in areas which were not easily accessible. Gul Afridi of World Health Organization (WHO) said that eight new polio cases had been reported in Pakistan.
“Two new cases have been reported in FATA, 3 in Sindh, 2 in Balochistan and 1 in Muzaffargarh.” She also added that Ministry of Health and WHO will launch a joint campaign soon in this regard.
