Following the outbreak of viral haemorrhagic fever in the city, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) would establish a special 40-bed dengue ward at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). During a meeting chaired by City Administrator Fazlur Rehman at his office on Tuesday, it was also decided a platelet supply agreement would also be signed with a private laboratory to ensure availability of necessary platelets. The city government also plans to carry out a fumigation drive in all towns of the metropolis. Karachi District Coordination Officer Mohammad Hussain Syed, Executive Health Officer (EDO) Health Dr Nasir Javed and EDO Municipal Services Masood Alam were among those present at the meeting. The 40-bed special dengue ward would have 20 beds each for male and female patients. The EDO health was directed to sign an agreement with a private laboratory for supply of platelets, while the EDO finance was instructed to issue the necessary funds for this purpose. The CDGK’s Health Department has arranged the 10th round of the fumigation campaign in the city’s towns as part of the malaria/dengue fever control programme from August 18. The campaign will end on August 28.
