The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday re-issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general (DG) and interior secretary concerning the plea of Nurab Khan, currently confined in Adiyala Jail, against his possible repartition to USA, as he is wanted by US authorities for his alleged involvement in money laundering and drug transportation cases. An IHC bench of Chief Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan resumed hearing in the case on Tuesday.
In his petition, Nurab contended that US authorities had been demanding his extradition. Nurab’s counsel told the court that in 2004, the US government had requested Pakistani authorities through a diplomatic representative in Pakistan to extradite Nurab. Later on, in 2005, Pakistani authorities conducted a magisterial inquiry. The counsel submitted that Islamabad additional deputy commissioner (ADC), the head of the inquiry committee, had issued Nurab’s non-bailable warrant without recording his statement. He prayed before the court to set aside the ADC’s orders and hand over Nurab to US authorities.
Justice Riaz issued notice to respondents, including FIA DG and interior secretary for their comments and adjourned the proceedings for an indefinite period. Earlier, IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman had issued the notices to respondents on August 2. However, the case was later transferred to Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan and he re-issued notices to the respondents.
