The newly-constructed University-Bari Imam Road, on which the CDA spent Rs 2.2 million, could not withstand even a single rainy season. The drain, which was constructed on the roadside in 2009, was not properly designed and failed to serve its purpose. Several parts of the road constructed only three months ago were washed away with the first rain of the season. The local population said the existing drainage system was inadequate.
When asked, an official of the CDA said the monsoon season presented every city with a set of problems regarding the overflow of rain water, resulting in damage to the infrastructure.
Although the CDA said it had finished cleaning the drains and nullahs before the start of the monsoons, streets were nevertheless flooded after an hour of heavy rains.
