AIOU geared up to celebrate Independence Day

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will hold Independence Day celebrations with traditional zeal and fervour on August14, 2011 at the university auditorium. The university staff and children from the university’s colony will participate in the celebrations, which will include speech contests among students and performances on national songs. As a chief guest of the event, AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi will hoist the national flag on the premises of the university.
Dr Sangi will also deliver a speech on the struggle for freedom to the gathering. The programme will end with Dr Sangi giving away prizes to the winners of the speech competitions and the best singers of patriotic songs. Interviews with the vice chancellor and chairman of AIOU, as well as with the Department of Pakistan Studies head, Dr Amanullah Memon, will be posted on the university website while a live transmission of the event will be aired by Voice of AIOU, the university’s FM radio channel. The University will be adorned with colourful buntings, banners, posters and pictures of freedom heroes for the occasion.
AIOU appoints new Dir Public Relations: AIOU has given Institute of Educational Technology Director Muhammad Qasim Haider the additional charge of director of public relations. The post will entrust Haider with the university’s “image building” through the print and electronic media, information dissemination, public relations and protocol responsibilities. According to a notification issued by the AIOU Registrar’s Department, Public Relation Officer Ubaidullah Mumtaz will work under the supervision of Haider.
