OKARA – Torture incidents seem to be ever increasing in the suburban Okara for the last few months. Seven people, namely Muhammad Mansha, Javed Iqbal, Imtiaz Ahmad, Mukhtiar and Nasir along with their 2 unknown accomplices, armed with sticks barged in the house of Ejaz Bibi, wife of Maqbool Hussain, resident of 24/GD, and tortured her and her daughter Robina Kausar.
In another incident, seven people; Muhammad Siddiq, Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Tariq and Javed along with their unknown accomplices entered the house of Sughran Bibi daughter of Sajwar, resident of Rehman Colony, and injured her.
Similarly, four people; Farooq, Rizwan, Imran and Ejaz armed with sticks entered the house of Bashir Ahmad son of Pehalwan and tortured his wife Shamim Bibi and daughter Shakila.
In a separate incident 12 people including Muhammad Junaid, Muhammad Siddiq, Muhammad Rafiq, Majeed, Muhammad Sharif, Muhammad Hanif along with their 6 accomplices entered the house of Muhammad Yasin son of Khair Din, resident of Dhakki, and baton charged his brother Muhammad Yamin.
In another incident, Muhammad Zareen, Bakhtiar Ahmad, Munawwar Bibi along with their two unknown accomplices entered the house of Jafar son of Sharif, resident of Chak No 5/SP, tortured his wife and torn her clothes.
DPO LAUDS ULEMA’S ROLE: Okara DPO Muhammad Azeem Arshad said the role of Ulema and citizens was clear and essential for maintaining peace and honour of Muharram. During a press briefing, he said police was high alert for safeguarding lives and properties of the public but could not play its role without citizens’ cooperation.
He admired the role played by Ulema and the citizens during Moharram. The security throughout the district has been made strict and flag march is being continued on every day basis as well, he said. Audio and video record of all majlises and processions is being maintained, he added.
PPP OKARA MEETING: PPP workers at a meeting at Sabir Ali Baig’s residence stressed the restoration and functioning of educational institutions including Cadet College Okara and Education University. They said that the Cadet College, established with millions of rupees, should start functioning and not go to ashes.
The Education University should also be restored, they said. Additional Secretary Shahid Mehood, General Secretary Nazeer Hafeez, ex-counselors Atiq Umar and Haji Muhammad Ramzan Jani, Labour Bureau District President Haji Nazar Muhammad, Vice President Israr Shah, Nadeem Rehmani, PLB General Secretary Siddique Sani and other workers joined in on the occasion.
They also demanded Prime Minister Syed Youaf Raza Gilani and Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to place the vegetable and grain market out side the city so that the traffic problems in the city could be solved. They also demanded the renovation of Faisalabad Road and to transfer Okara DHQ MS.
