Lee Chong Wei’s bid to become the first Malaysian ever to win a world title continued Wednesday with a second superbly taken win at the world championships. Lee once again showed himself the world’s best mover on a badminton court, covering acres of ground with remarkable grace and economy as he beat Ville Lang, the world number 45 from Finland in straight games. “I feel quite confident, and it’s going well, but my most important opponent will still be my next one,” said Lee after his 21-10, 21-11 success – perhaps mindful that, despite winning two All-England Open titles, he has yet to deliver his best at a world championship. His performance was also characterised by keeping the shuttle moving to all four corners, increasing the pace at unexpected moments, and creating a pressure on Lang which became cumulative. This brought Lee accelerated progress from 9-6 to 19-9 in the second game, and sometimes saw Lang to work an opening only to overstretch himself in trying too hard to put the shuttle away.
