Secretary Information Technology (IT), Saeed Ahmad Khan Wednesday reiterated that Ministry of IT, its affiliated companies and departments are looking forward to an amicable solution of all the issues faced by telecom operators, with in the frame work of rules and regulations. He said this when CEOs of telecom companies Worldcall, PTCL, Redtone and Multinet called on him, yesterday.
The meeting was focused on financial, legal and administrative issues. The issues of outstanding Universal Service Funds (USF) contributions including APC for USF and Spectrum charges were discussed in the meeting. Moreover issues related to grey trafficking in telecom sector, cancellation of licenses of telecom operators and late fee charges on outstanding payable amount were also discussed in the meeting. While highlighting the importance and contributions of telecom industry in the social and economic sectors, the representatives of telecom companies stressed to revisit the telecom policy of 2004 for ensuring better facilitation of telecom operators.
Secretary IT said that, “We welcome guidance and suggestions from the telecom industry for settlement of all outstanding issues”. At the end, Secretary IT thanked the CEOs of telecom companies and ensured his cooperation for the development of telecom sector in Pakistan.
What about the consumers? As usual people of Pakistan are not on priority.PTCL is the worst offender with its depleting services and totally non cooperative response or no response by its much touted numbers like 1236 which deals with value added or normal services.It is dishonest to its consumers when without informing it raises terriff on services. Its officials like the DE of Defence Exchange Lahore are no help to consumers and offer no confidence to the people. The DPs are in deplorable condition and lower staff are helpless due to indifferent attitude of the officials. Like KESC it needs a kick in its behind as do the people who hired such an incompetent Middle Eastern company. It virtually ignores the public, and the Govt who owns majority shares are just spectators and hold such meetings that mean nothing to the general public.They should first check the performance then talk about their demands. Currently the Telecom sector treats our people like dirt especially PTCL.
