MIRPURKHAS: Sindh police have failed to find its constable, who went missing six years ago. The constable, Abrar Ahmad, 29, was performing his duty in Umerkot district, when he was first reported missing in 2004. The miserable mother of the missing Abrar told Pakistan Today that he had gone to his work at Shadi Palli police station on Oct 4, 2004 but never returned.
Munni Begum, 70, with tears in her eyes said that when after ten days of wait, he did not return, her other son Mehmood went to the police station to inquire about his brother.
“The then SHO Karim Dad Mangrio told him that Abrar had been sent to Sehwan Sharif for some official work and assured him that he would be back soon”, she said. She said that police never cooperated with them in the search for the missing. “After our frequent visits, the SHO started insulting us, but we somehow succeeded in getting a non-cognizable report registered after hectic efforts”, she added.
It was on Oct 19, 2007, when police registered an FIR on a complaint lodged by Abrar’s mother at Shadi Palli police station after passage of three years against unknown persons.
“We searched for him day in and day out, everywhere we could go but…,” she said chocking on tears. She said they also wrote pleas to president, chief justice, human rights organisations and officers of law enforcement agencies but they all ‘appeared to have fallen on deaf ears’.
Another brother of Abrar Shakeel said, “We went to each and every city and town of the province searching, we distributed thousands of pamphlets but did not receive any information.
He said that Sindh police had also announced Rs 0.5 million as prize money for anyone who could give any information about Abrar.
He said former chief justice of Sindh High Court Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took suo motu notice of the case on Nov, 6, 2008 and summoned police officers concerned on Nov 20, 2008 after converting their application into a constitutional petition. The officers assured the court they would step up efforts to find the missing constable. Another man goes missing
It may be mentioned that another man, Waghji Kolhi,38 Upper division clerk UDC of building department Umerkot has been missing since Nov 30,2010, when he went to work.
His mother, Shremati Ghomi Kolhi told Pakistan today they were searching for the missing. She said Popat Kolhi, president of the Kolhi Association had reported the matter to police but so far they could not hear anything about him. Kolhi is father of four.
