The Pakistan People’s Party Minorities Wing has expressed its gratitude to President Asif Zardari and the PPP leadership for recognizing the contribution and services of the country’s minorities in the development and progress of the country by making August 11 the National Day for Minorities.
In a press statement on Wednesday, PPP Minorities Wing leader Napolean Qayyum said the government should resolve the issues confronting the minority sections of society. He said August 11 was not just about celebrating the country’s minorities but also making efforts to address their problems.
He said the minorities wanted a Pakistan based on the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah which gave equal rights to the minorities and allowed the freedom to practice their beliefs without any fear of persecution. He called on the Punjab government to implement the five percent job quota for minorities in all government departments, saying a fair treatment to the minorities would ensure a progressive Pakistan.
