Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Information and Inter Provincial Coordination and Chairman of the Oversight Committee on Implementation of the 18th Amendment Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said the KP government is ready to take over the ministries devolved to the province.
While chairing a meeting of the Oversight Committee on Wednesday, he rejected the impression that the provincial government was not prepared to assume additional responsibilities in the wake of devolution of ministries under the 18th amendment.
The meeting discussed the post-devolution scenario and took up the matters related to departments including LG & RD, Population Welfare, Zakat, Ushr, Social Welfare and Women Development, Elementary and Secondary Education, Higher Education, Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperation, Sports, Culture, Tourism and Youth Affairs, Environment, Food, Health, Labour and Manpower, Auqaf, Haj, Religious and Minority Affairs and Energy & Power Departments. The officials told the committee that the government machinery was ready to take additional responsibilities. Mian Iftikhar expressed his satisfaction over the progress so far made on the implementation of the 18th amendment and directed the authorities concerned to fix their shortcomings in next 45 days for the smooth transition of powers to provinces.
Senator Afrasiab Khattak participated in the meeting on special invitation. Others present on the occasion included KP Minister for Elementary Education Sardar Hussain Babak, Law Minister Barrister Arshad Abdullah, MPAs Shafufta Malik and Adnan Khan Wazir and secretaries from all the departments concerned.
