6 more murders in city; Malir protests operation

Violence continued to mar city’s peace on Tuesday as six more persons, including two political activists, were killed in different parts of the city, while residents of Malir protested the targeted operation in the area against the arrest of ‘innocents’.
An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Liaquatabad No 2. The brother of the deceased identified as Azeem, had also been shot dead by two days earlier. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
In Godhra, New Karachi, a Sunni Tehreek (ST) activist was shot dead in a clash between ST and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ). Tension prevailed in the area after the incident and residents were forced to stay indoors due to intense aerial firing.
Another clash was reported between the activists of ST and MQM in Sector 7-D. Two persons were reportedly injured and shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
In the jurisdiction of Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police, unidentified armed men shot dead Waheed Shah alias Taji Baba, near the Sakhi Hassan graveyard.
The Preedy police found the body of an unidentified man from a gunny bag. Another body in a gunny bag was found in the Frere Colony area. Both the victims had been tortured to death.
Meanwhile, targeted operations by police and other law enforcement agencies in different areas against miscreants drew ire from the area residents.
During the raids, around 75 persons were arrested including 25 from Gulistan-e-Jauhar, 15 from Lasi Goth and Ayub Goth, eight from Landhi, seven from Surjani and nine from the Jafar-e-Tayyar Society.
 The residents of Jafar-e-Tayyar staged a protest against targeted operations in their area. They blocked the main road suspending vehicular traffic jam for several hours. The protesters pelted the passing vehicles with stones and torched tyres.
