The recently-restored City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has installed 330 poles at various points along Shahrah-e-Faisal and Shahrah-e-Quaideen up to the Mazar-e-Quaid to hoist the national flag for marking the upcoming Independence Day on August 14.
“The posts will be dedicated for hoisting the national flag only and no other flags of any group or party will be allowed,” said Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mohammad Hussain Syed while addressing a meeting to review arrangements for the Independence Day at the Civic Centre on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Executive District Officers (EDOs), town administrators and the Sindh government’s Protocol Director, while representatives from police, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Board (QMMB) and cantonment boards were also present.
Various decisions were taken during the meeting for assigning different duties to the departments concerned and measures for celebrating the Independence Day in a befitting manner.
All flags, posters and banners will be removed along Shahrah-e-Faisal and Shahrah-e-Quaideen and replaced with the national flag. The mausoleum of the founder of the country, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, will be closed for public on August 13 due to administrative works and reopened for public at 11 am the next day.
The Karachi DCO said that as August 14 is the most important day for the nation, a comprehensive programme should be devised in coordination with all EDOs and other civic organisations to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
It was also decided at the meeting that carrying any kind of weapon inside the premises of the Quaid’s mausoleum will be strictly prohibited and even on-duty police guards will not be allowed to do so.
According to the plan, Sindh Governor and Chief Minister will hoist the national flag at the Mazar-e-Quaid at 9 am on August 14. National flags will also be hoisted at all buildings under city and town administrations. Special functions will be held at CDGK-run schools in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan.
