The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has termed Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar’s recent trip to India as a huge boost for the revival of a bilateral series after over three years.
Pakistan and India have not played in a bilateral series for over three years as tension between the two countries increased following the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008. However, Khar’s visit to India last month, where she emphasised the need for the revival of cricketing ties, has been seen as the first step forward to move on the issue. The PCB has suffered huge financial losses due to India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. Several attempts have been made, but, no positive response has been forthcoming from the BCCI. BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla termed it “a positive development”.
“The foreign minister met and urged to find ways for revival of cricket between the two countries. We appreciate her keen interest in the matter and such developments are always important in a situation like this and we hope it will yield positive results,” he added.
