Scott Piercy dropped a three-stroke lead but held on and made a seven-foot par putt on the final hole to win the US PGA Tour’s Reno-Tahoe Open by one stroke on Sunday. Piercy carded a final-round two-under par 70 for a 15-under total of 273 and a one-stroke victory over Pat Perez. Piercy claimed his first US PGA Tour title and insured his stellar 11-under 61 in Saturday’s third round wasn’t wasted. “Finally,” said Piercy, whose previous best finish in three years on the US tour was a tie for fifth at the 2009 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. “It kind of feels like I got the monkey off the back,” Piercy said. “I’ve been in the final group five times I think and didn’t close the deal. “I always thought I could do it and it was just a matter of doing it. Now I did it … A big sigh of relief.” Piercy led by three strokes through 11 holes. But after Perez birdied the par-four 12th and par-five 13th, Piercy bogeyed the 365-yard par-four 14th. He had tried to drive to the green but his ball hit a cart path and rocketed 30 yards left.
