Tajik Transport Minister Nizom Hakimov has met Pakistani Minister of Communications Arbab Alamgir Khan in the Tajik capital on Monday. Issues pertaining to cooperation between the sides in developing Tajikistan’s transport infrastructure as part of the Tajik government’s strategic tasks to bring Tajikistan out of a communication impasse were high on the agenda of the talks, BBC reported.
Farid Yoqubzoda, head of the Tajik Transport Ministry’s international cooperation directorate, said that the ministers also discussed the implementation of a project for the construction of a main road linking Tajikistan and Pakistan through Afghanistan. “The Pakistani minister told his Tajik colleague that 70 per cent of the feasibility study of the aforementioned project had been done in Pakistan,” Farid Yoqubzoda said. He also said the sides had decided that they would maintain regular contacts to inform each other about the implementation of the earlier reached inter-governmental agreements in the field of transport. Arbab Alamgir Khan is expected to meet Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov and Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi during his visit, which will continue until 10 August.
