All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Monday condemned the government’s decision of not increasing gas tariff for the fertiliser sector even though it massively increased the tariff for domestic consumers and CNG sector in the month of Ramadan. In a statement it said that the increase in gas prices during the holy month was unfair to the people who were for the first time in country’s history facing gas load shedding in Ramadan.
The unjustified increase has been carried out to cover the gas theft of the SNGPL and SSGC from the pockets of the people.
It said APCNGA was promised that the increase in gas price would be uniformly applied to all sectors and CNG price would have differential of 45 per cent of petrol price but the decision taken by the government went against their promises.
The CNG sector consuming 7.2 per cent of gas witnessed its price increase to Rs571.88 per mmBTU while the fertiliser sector consuming 36 per cent gas was still charged on Rs102 per mmBTU.
Appealing to Petroleum Minister Dr Asim, it demanded action against corrupt officials involved in gas theft. It said that if action was not taken to curb gas
theft then APCNGA might be compelled to rethink its protest plans and closure of CNG stations across the country.
