‘Madrassahs and mosques can be used to promote peace’

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan asked the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) on Saturday to play its role in fostering unity and harmony among the masses.
During a meeting with JUI Karachi chief Qari Mohammad Usman, the minister said that madressahs and mosques can be utilised as a platform to promote tolerance and unanimity among people.
The home minister said he was committed to the restoration of peace in Karachi and is therefore coordinating with all provincial and religious parties.
He asked for a proactive role by religious scholars for the cause of public safety.
Qari Mohammad Usman told the home minister that an Ulema Peace Council has been constituted, comprising religious scholars from all schools of thought.
The council would be particularly focused on helping maintain peace in Karachi.
He assured the minister of his support to the government efforts.
Usman, accompanied by JUI Karachi Information Secretary Mohammad Aslam, said that tolerance and rebuilding of confidence is needed for peace and tranquillity in Karachi.
