FAISALABAD – The city district government has launched a crackdown against quacks, illegal medical practitioners, drug stores, pharmacies and butchers. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Nasim Sadiq instructed for this second phase of crackdown.
Earlier, the authorities undertook an operation for the eradication of drugs and beggary that brought satisfactory results. The authorities have collected Rs 3,611,000 as fines in the ongoing crackdown against quacks and drug stores involved.
Health Executive District Officer (EDO) Dr Rasheed Ahmed said that the inspection teams collected 1,061 samples out of which 21 were declared as sub-standard whereas six were found dubious. He added that 157 cases were registered against the quacks and illegal medical practitioners, 21 clinics were sealed while two quacks were arrested under criminal charges and first information reports (FIRs) were registered against them.
He said that 21 cases were submitted to Punjab Quality Control Board (PQCB) and 354 cases were referred to Faisalabad District Quality Control Board (FDQCB). Earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had admitted in the parliament that 50 percent medical supplies available in the market were sub standard.
DCO has formed two special inspection teams headed by Agriculture Executive District Officer (EDO) Ishtiaq Hussain and Livestock District Officer (DO) Dr Abdul Rehman to check the quality of mutton and beef available in the market on daily basis. The purpose of these teams is to stop the sale of harmful, sub standard and adulterated mutton and beef.
The butchers selling the mutton of sick animals will also be targeted during the campaign and a severe action including detention and fines will be imposed on the violators.
A 70-year-old man alleged of incest rape: A 70-year-old man accused of raping his daughter-in-law is wanted by police. According to details, the complainant Rehana Kausar, wife of Imran, a resident of Chak No 467 GB, reported the Women Police Station that her father-in-law Siddique harassed her in their house when her husband Imran was away.
She also claimed that she was raped without her consent and against her will. Woman police registered a case against the accused under section 376 of PPC and started investigating the claim. The medical report of the complainant is still awaited to verify the claim. The family sources said that the charges were a fall out of the family feud existing between them. No further details were available.
False rape charges to blemish the reputation of respectable individuals are a tradition in the poverty stricken, low-esteemed families having criminal records. However, the women rights NGOs operating in Pakistan have reported many times in the past that 90 percent of incest rape cases remain unreported due to a social taboo.
TEENAGER KIDNAPPED FOR RANSOM: An 18-year-old college student, who mysteriously disappeared from college, was reportedly kidnapped by unidentified gang who demanded Rs 10 million from the victim’s father. According to details, the complainant Abid Hussain, a resident of Chak No 137 GB near Samundary, reported that he dropped his son Raheel Faraz at Samundary College on December 7.
The boy did not return home and the family was worried about his safety. Three days later, somebody using the mobile phone of the missing boy, called his father and demanded Rs 10 million ransom for his release. The kidnapper speaking from Swat threatened to kill the boy if their demand was not fulfilled. City Police
It is significant to note that last month, a Hong Kong returned father in Jarranwala paid Rs 10 million in exchange of his six-year-old only son’s release from the kidnapper. The family had arrived from Hong Kong to spend holidays in their hometown Jarranwala. Their six-year-old only son Mohammad Haseeb was kidnapped by two unidentified armed motorcyclists when he was playing outside his house on Eidul Azha day.
It is assumed that the same gang has kidnapped Raheel and the culprits appear to be highly trained and organised people who are using mobile phone of the victim without leaving any trace of their identity.
