Five dead in Karachi as Malik promises stern action

Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday ruled out any compromise in the government’s efforts to restore law and order in Karachi while five people were killed in separate incidents in the metropolis.
Talking to journalist after presiding over high-level meetings, Rehman promised not to spare any body and a stern against the criminal elements.
He said the arrested persons would soon be brought before the media persons to narrate their modus operandi and expose those on whose directions they committed criminal actions.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan said efforts were being made to bring normalcy in Karachi and other parts of the province with the help of the federal government.
Earlier, Malik had an aerial view of the troubled parts of Karachi city to get first-hand knowledge about the law and order situation. During his visit, he saw pickets of police and Rangers in various areas including Surjani Town, Banaras, Kati Pahari, Gulshan Maymar, Taiser Town and others.
His helicopter also landed at Surjani Town where he was given a rousing welcome by a large number of locals. He visited the locality without any security and met people and listen to their problems.
On the other hand, five people, including a woman, were killed and nine injured in the provincial capital.
According to details, two rival groups used sophisticated weapons during a clash at the Jumma Bazaar in Sector 4C Memon Colony, Baldia Town. As a result, one person was killed and eight, including a police sub-inspector received injuries.
According to the police, the victims were busy in shopping at the Jumma Bazaar when two groups, stated to be land grabbers, started targeting each other with heavy fire.
Another man was shot dead in Khokhrapar area of Malir while an unknown person lost his life in Srya Gali of Lyari.
Another man Arnold was shot dead in the Drig Road Bazaar area of the Shah Faisal Colony while a woman became the victim of personal enmity in the same locality.
Meanwhile, situation in Pak Colony and Baldia Town remained tense as sporadic incidents of aerial fire had been reported from the vicinities.
