Inquiry starts against Shadman SHO over Nairang antics

Another case of power abuse and police brutality surfaced the scene on Friday as Shadmaan Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) Rana Zulfiqar was held for inquiry on charges of harassing and beating staff members of the Nairang Art Gallery, including a young female curator.
The newly transferred SHO raided the art gallery-cum-café on August 2. During the raid, he allegedly assaulted the staff members and bruised the young female curator of the gallery. Eyewitnesses claimed that the SHO at first picked on customers and then administered a beating on the female curator and staff members intervening to rescue her. The incident took place a day before Ramadan when the SHO was heading back to Shadman Police Station located on Jail Road. Eyewitnesses said the SHO was stopped as a young lady trying to park her car in front of the art gallery, took a little long.
The delay infuriated the SHO and he marched into the gallery with his staff members. Inside the café, he started questioning a young couple having lunch. As the couple told him they were married and the husband was an advocate, the SHO backed off. He then asked the maintenance manager to call the gallery in-charge, a female curator. On meeting the curator, the SHO noted down her name and address. When the young lady questioned the SHO on taking down her personal details, the SHO first criticised her appearance and then hit her. As the curator tripped down, two of the gallery staff came forward for her rescue but were also thrashed by the SHO.
The curator was traumatised by the incident and refused to talk to anyone or resume her job. Later, the gallery owner’s son came and pacified the policemen, requesting him to meet the gallery owner. “At first the SHO said he would wait for my father to arrive, but after a few minutes he just stood up and left the gallery,” said the owner’s son. “I insisted him to stay which again made him angry and he said ‘Im not your fathers servant’ and shoved me into his car,” he added. Meanwhile, the gallery owner reached the scene and got his son released from the police.
All top cops including the chief city police officer, Model Town Police superintendent and deputy superintendent police (investigation) Ichchra refused to comment on the incident.

  1. I'm sure if we dig dipper into other matters surrounding the SHO, we WILL and i repeat WE WILL find more evidence of police brutality. Such Cops does not deserve a police uniform as they are far far away from being able to perform the duties that come with it. I'm sorry for the lady and hope SHO gets what he deserves.   13. no dig deeper into the matter i am sure Nairang is a place where illegal activities like alcohol, prostitution goes on as the galley owners son is renowned himself for harassment and being drunk always,the SHO might have seen both of them in some act and caught and Nairang is trying to cover it up.

    • SHAHID, fuck off ok. get your mind straightened out. its completely irrelevant whatever goes on in the art gallery. its private property, and secondly it was not an incident that was provoked by the gallery people, but by the SHO. thirdly, there is a code of conduct or any human, let alone a person whose sole duty is to serve people, not to injure them. if you say that you condemn the activities in the gallery when no harm is being done to you by them, i swear i'll get to your house and beat you up so that you know how it feels. phir call karna apnay baap SHO ko. SHAHID!!

  25. Police has no right to hit anyone…whatever the case or real story behind this incident. Police can't give jugdement, and then punish on site…what is the difference between this incident and Sailkot lynching incident?.

    • There is no difference what so ever between this and that of Sialkot incidents. People in police are placed in the force by recommendations and bribery, not by their qualifications and / or experience. Corruption leads to more corruption, therefore Pakistan is no longer pak, it has been corrupted.

  27. I was hesitating to comment but forced to do it. I know the attitude of this police since more than 4 decades when I was young. This is their style. They think they have become God after wearing police uniform. i have always hesitated all my life to enter police station even if knew there was some in police uniform there whom I know very well. Their enmity is as bad their friendship. They consider themselves above the law and do fear. Aah what a shame. they have not changed when I have grown old and crossed 60 years of my life.

    I would love to spray paint him and his work place once a week on a regular basis. use oil paint so it does not come off easily.

    • Muslims are supposed to be at peace within themselves and others around them. Instead of attacking innocent people, maybe we should lower our gazes. Instead of enforcing others to dress and behave according to us and eventually being insecure about ourselves, maybe we should look within ourselves and try to be better Muslims.     and dear fellows writing nairang as "fahashi ka adda" and "drinking place" seriously i believe u people have never been to nairang. seeing it from outside and assuming stuff what people say does not built reality. its a small harmless art gallery with a small harmless cafe and trust me whatever goes in that cafe goes in every cafe in lahore. every one have their own lives and decisions to run that life and no policeman or anyone has a rite to stop them by force. specially in private cafes.
    i condemn this act strongly and i think its time to educate the police people with some morality and respect. they can't just run around and rape rspects and dignities.
