The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has expressed great sorrow over the electrocution of a lineman in Korangi, who was forced by an angry mob to repair a local fault that was unassigned. The employee received an electric shock while handling the fault and died on the spot.
Muhammad Arif, a semi-skilled lineman, was repairing the Khalid Bin Walid PMT along with two helpers when he was intercepted by an angry mob of local residents and was forced to repair a fault of another PMT of Akbar Mandi near the Water Pump’s double PMTs.
Arif started to work on this unassigned PMT under pressure, but while isolating the live wires there, he received an electric shock on his left elbow. He was taken to the Indus Hospital where he was declared dead.
The KESC has expressed great shock and sorrow over the death of a valuable employee and urged upon the power consumers to exercise restraint and patience while waiting for repair of local faults and not force any utility employee to take up a job that has not been officially assigned to him.
