Karachi violence: Altaf asks action against MQM if found involved

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chairman Altaf Hussain has asked the Pakistan Army and the Rangers to come to Karachi and see who is involved in terrorism, while he also said that action should also be taken against the MQM if it is found involved, a private TV channel reported on Wednesday.
Speaking to party leaders via telephone from London, Altaf said that the government had failed to control terrorists and action should be taken against those involved in terrorist activities. About the recent violence in Karachi, Altaf said he had given 48 hour deadline to the government to restore peace in the city.
“I want peace in Karachi at all cost. I hate violence. I want Pakistan to make progress and corruption be rooted out,” he said, adding he was ready to renounce the party leadership if it could bring peace to Karachi. “Those who claim ownership of Pakistan today had actually been slaves of Hindu Bania (during pre-partition) and the freedom they were enjoying today is because of the struggle of Muhajirs (refugees). Pakistan came into being because of Mohajirs,” he maintained.
Altaf said that Mohajirs had not come to Pakistan empty handed and demanded of the international community to accept their presence. “Mohajirs are no longer Mohajirs here because it is their fifth generation that is now living in Pakistan,” he argued.
The MQM chief said if Sindhis were 200-year old then they (Muhajirs) were also 70-year old Sindhis. He said innocent people were being butchered in Karachi and that criminals and land mafia were enjoying patronisation. “Stop the people who are patronising criminal elements,” he urged the president, prime minister and (Sindh) chief minister.
