‘Private practice only allowed at government doctors’ homes’

According to law, doctors of government hospitals are allowed private practice only at their residences and not at private hospitals and clinics, Punjab Health Secretary Jahanzeb Khan said on Tuesday.
He was chairing a meeting to review performance of district headquarters and tehsil headquarters hospitals and rural health centres and BHUs of Gujranwala and Hafizabad.
The secretary said that a strict monitoring system will soon be evolved under which every medical superintendent of government hospitals would furnish a certificate that doctors and staff of his hospital are not engaged in any private practice. The Gujranwala health EDO briefed the meeting about the performance of hospitals of his district. He informed that an ICU is being established at DHQ hospital at a cost of Rs 53.455 million and so far Rs 22.341 million have been spent on the project. Five BHUs have also been established at Gujranwala at a cost of Rs 29.615 million.
He informed that construction of a community midwife hostel is underway and Rs 8.394 million are being spent on it. The Hafizabad health EDO also briefed the meeting about health projects in his district.
