At the outset of his political career in 1990s, Imran Khan was taken as a vibrant and a firebrand revolutionary who specially attracted youth and the people wanting to change the corrupt political system. However, after spending so many years in the political arena, Imran Khan seems to have lost his politics of principles and public-friendliness; rather, he has emerged as an impassive demagogue having no regard for the established democratic norms. Instead of siding with the democratic forces, he is bent upon fighting with them, which I fear, will strengthen the looters and plunders.
For the past may years, he is vying to make it to the power corridors of Islamabad through his politics of agitation and sit-in. Now, he has announced to hold protest before the Supreme Court of Pakistan on August 6. While, it’s his democratic right to hold such sit-in wherever he wants, but I would like to ask him why he is reluctant to go to Sindh and Balochistan to hold protest marches on more important thorny issues which need immediate attention.
I would, therefore, appeal to Imran Khan to hold protest marches against target killings in Karachi and spate of murder of innocent ethnic Punjabis and Shiite community in strife-stricken Balochistan. Imran Khan should also hold protest marches against Rangers’ high-handedness in Karachi and MQM’s politics of coercion and blackmailing. It’s better if he could stop challenging Punjab rulers and force the PPP-led federal government to stop loadshedding and corruption. Why is he ignoring biggest robbery in the Bank of Punjab, plunder of public money by the federal government, disrespect of Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdicts, NICL scam and specious alliance of PPP and Q-League?
I hope Imran Khan will not succumb to temporal temptations of realpolitik and will rise to side with the democratic forces that are not corrupt and honest with the people.
