In the wake of pressure from the government, for the first time five US nationals made a day-trip to Peshawar with a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Foreign Ministry on Sunday. The US nationals went to Peshawar from Islamabad in two vehicles. The police stopped both vehicles upon arrival at the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway toll plaza, where the Americans showed their passports along with the NOCs issued by the federal government. Despite possessing the proper documentation, the US nationals waited an hour inside their vehicles at the toll plaza, after which they were permitted to enter Peshawar after clearance from the higher-ups.
