Chewing gutka can lead to six years in prison according to new bill

KARACHI:  Chewing gutka can lead to one to six years in prison, according to a bill proposed in the Sindh Assembly on Saturday.

The bill calls for the selling, buying and chewing of gutka in public places to be outlawed. This includes schools, colleges, hospitals, bus station among other places.

The bill further proposes the imposition of an Rs500,000 fine on violators.

Sindh Minister for Local Government, Public Health Engineering and Rural Development, and Katchi Abadies Saeed Ghani said that while a bill on the ban of gutka had already been approved by the provincial assembly, implementation had not yet been carried out.
