Anti-terror laws

The need of anti terror law in Pakistan is very important as Pakistan fights the war on terror but doesn’t have any law to properly prosecute or punish them. Due to a lack of a proper anti-terror law, many terrorists have walked free and now have the opportunity to act with impunity. It is the responsibility of government to make the law and get it approved through parliament and enforce the law through institutions. The enforcement is also as important as the drafting and cleaning up the law enforcement apparatus is imperative for that.

As PM Gilani said in his address to the parliament that Pakistan’s anti-terrorism laws need to be improved because thousand of terrorists apprehended by law enforcement agencies were bailed out in court and again indulged in terrorist activities. He said that parliament should make effective laws so that “terrorists get no relief” and there should be “zero tolerance” for people who are out to destroy the country and are attacking innocent people.

It is an irony that Pakistan is fighting against terrorism but doesn’t have proper anti-terror legislation and the requisite administrative structure to deal with it. The absence of anti terror law also creates the question in one’s mind as to when the war on terror will end what will be the fate of the terrorists without a proper law in place? The major objective of our government should be to secure the national interest as well as nation security through proper laws.
