Imran briefs world leaders on Kashmir crisis

–PM meets Turkey’s Erdogan, Iran’s Rohani and NZ premier Jacinda Ardern 

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Imran Khan met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session on Monday and informed them about the humanitarian crises in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

During his meeting with Erdogan, the prime minister briefed the Turkish president on Kashmir situation.

He stated that India’s efforts to change IOK’s demographic structure contravened numerous UNSC resolutions, international law as well as India’s own commitments.

He also expressed satisfaction that Pakistan-Turkey bilateral relations had transformed into a mutually beneficial strategic partnership.

He thanked President Erdogan for Turkey’s consistent support to Pakistan on issues of core national interest and reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support to Turkey on issues of its national interest.

During the meeting the leaders recalled the historic fraternal ties between the two nations and reiterated their strong resolve to continue standing by each other in the face of all challenges.

MEETS IRAN’S ROHANI:

During his meeting with Rohani, the prime minister underscored Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen good neighbourly relations with Iran and build mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse areas.

The prime minister thanked the Iranian leadership, especially Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for expressing unequivocal support for the Kashmiri people and their legitimate rights.

The prime minister also discussed the current situation in Kashmir created by India‘s unilateral and illegal actions that pose a grave risk to regional peace and security.

Both sides agreed to fast track implementation of the bilateral agreements concluded during the visit of PM Imran to Iran earlier this year.

MEETS ITALY’S PM:

During his meeting with the Italian premier, the prime minister briefed the Italian prime minister on the legal, humanitarian and peace and security dimensions of the situation in IOK.

He called for the immediate lifting of all restrictions including the curfew, release of all prisoners, stop in the use of pellet guns, and respect for the human rights of Kashmiri people.

He also underlined the importance of the international community acting urgently to ward off threats to peace and security and facilitate peaceful resolution of the dispute in IOK.

In a meeting with NZ PM Jacinda, Imran discussed the challenge of anti-Muslim sentiment and Islamophobia.

The PM briefed her on the plight of Kashmiris and the danger of a massacre in Occupied Kashmir.
