CHUNIAN: Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Zahid Nawaz Marwat on Tuesday confirmed the death of the fourth child, Imran, in Chunian district of the city.

According to Marwat, the clothes of Muhammad Imran were identified by his parents and their family tailor.

Imran was kidnapped from Rana Town neighborhood three months ago whose clothes were found along with remains of other three minor boys, who were murdered after being sexually assaulted on Sept 17.

According to the police, 12-year-old Imran of Rana Town had gone missing on June 1 while eight-year-old Ali Hasnain and nine-year-old Salman had gone missing in August, while eight-year-old Faizan had disappeared on September 16.

Only Faizan’s complete body was recovered, whereas the bones of Ali and Suleman were recovered from sand dunes.

In retaliation to the police’s inability to nab the culprits behind these attacks people from Kasur took to the streets on Sept 2018. Demonstrators targeted a police station and pelted it with stones and burnt tyres on routes leading to the police station, as a wave of anger swept the city.

The police has since arrested several suspects in relation to the case and has also started monitoring CCTV camera footage from around the localities where the minors abducted.

DNA samples of the victims have also been collected and the police are in the process of having them examined and matched with those of the suspects.

Following the rioting, Punjab Cheif Minister Usman Buzdar called for the formation of Child Protection Bureau in addition to authorising the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to look into the cases.

The chief minister also announced Rs5 million prize money for information regarding the culprits behind the Chunian incident.

The incident has brought Kasur back national limelight after the abduction and murder of a minor girl, Zainab Ansari caused nation-wide outrage in January 2018.
