ATTA reservations removed

After addressing the reservations in the new Afghan Transit Trade Agreement the road for transportation of goods from Wagah border to Afghanistan is clear. Under the agreement the goods would be transported, in the first step, to Peshawar Dry Port and Amangarh Dry Port in Nowshera district from India through Wagah border. Then the goods will be delivered to Afghanistan by Afghan trucks. Chairman Senate Standing Committee on trade and leader of the Businessmen forum, Senator Ilyas Bilour informed here on Friday. The reservations in ATTA were removed by the Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh during a meeting convened for discussing the pros and cons of carrying out business across the region, Senator Ilyas Bilour informed Businessmen Forum meeting in Peshawar. President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) Usman Bashir Bilour and executive members of the chamber were also present on the occasion.
According to the agreement goods would also be supplied from Afghanistan border to Wagah border. Later on the meeting also discussed the possibility of extending aid money to traders affected by terrorist attacks in Peshawar. the meeting also praised the business forum’s efforts for stopping 25 percent increase in rent of shops in the district government areas for the coming three years. It also reviewed the rehabilitation work carried out by business community for flood victims in the region.
It further discussed reforms in tax system and the establishment of a Research and Development Center in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber to carry out research based trade activities in order to propel further economic activities within and across the region.
