EU lawmaker proposes trade, travel restrictions on India amid IOK lockdown

MUZAFFARABAD: A European parliamentarian, Richard Corbett, has proposed trade sanctions and travel restrictions on those who are involved in the acts of terrorism and human rights violations in the Muslim-majority state in any capacity as the clampdown in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) has gone beyond a month.

He put forward this suggestion while addressing a conference held in Brussels, arranged by Co-Chair of Friends of Kashmir group in European Parliament (EP).

He also said that New Delhi government should be forced by employing any means necessary to ease the lockdown in the valley and end the human rights violations.

As per the official statement, this conference was attended by Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Sardar Masood Khan and was jointly organised by Friends of Kashmir Group in the EP and Jammu-Kashmir Self-Determination Movement, at the European Parliament on Thursday.

 

The participants were briefed by several EU lawmakers about the worsening situation in the valley and unprovoked atrocities being committed by the Indian forces.

previously, EU lawmakers, during their visit to the valley, met with local people along with students and journalists and inquired about the hardships they have been going through.

Later, in a statement, they asked Indian government to ease the curfew and allow people access to food and medical facilities.
