Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Maleeha Lodhi on Monday met with the President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa and spoke to her about the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IOK).

Ambassador Lodhi briefed the UN president on the continued aggression being committed by India in IOK. She reminded the UN of its obligation to maintain peace and security in the world.

Lodhi’s meeting with UNGA president comes days after Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi raised the issue of human rights violations in IOK with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The UN secretary-general according to Qureshi expressed concerns over “the curtailment of peoples’ rights in Kashmir” and promised to take up the matter with India’s prime minister, Modi.
