Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader Amanullah Zehri was gunned down by unknown assailants in Khuzdar district, Balochistan, on Saturday.

Zehri was on his way when he was ambushed by unidentified people, who opened indiscriminate fire, killing him and three others, including his minor grandson Mardan Zehri, on the spot.

He was the son of Nawab Nowrouz Khan, who led the second insurgency against the state in 1958, and later died in jail.

The area was cordoned off by security officials to collect evidence from the site, whereas the bodies were handed over to the families after the paperwork.

The incident came a day after bombing at a Quetta seminary, wherein five people, including a brother of an Afghan Taliban leader, were killed.

The incident was condemned by BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal in a tweet. He said: “Another dark day for BNP and the people of Balochistan. This loss has deprived us all. I’m [at] loss of words today. Devastated to learn that Shaheed Amanullah Zehri with his friends and innocent grandson have been brutally killed in the middle of the night. May Allah have mercy.”
