To ensure proper follow up of the Ramazan Package 2011, Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas directed the commissioners of the province on Wednesday to monitor the supply of wheat from the Food Department to 172 flour mills of the province.
He also directed them to ensure the establishment of flour sale points and proper distribution of flour there.
The chief secretary was presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed, Commissioner Hyderabad Ahmed Bux Narejo, Commissioner Sukkur Inamullah Dharejo, Commissioner Larkana Aleem Lashari, Commissioner Mirpurkhas Ghulam Hussain Memon, Sindh Secretary Food Naseer Jamali, and Secretary to the Chief Minister Alamuddin Bullo.
The chief secretary directed the commissioners to form committees at the divisional, district and taluka levels that would monitor the supply of subsidized flour to poor people and those having Watan or Benazir Income Support Programme cards. He ordered setting up complaint cells at provincial, district, taluka and union council level.
Abbas also ordered commissioners and mukhtiarkars to keep a watchful eye on hoarding of essential commodities, profiteering and attempts to create an artificial price hike and take action against traders involved in any wrongdoing.
Earlier, the provincial food secretary in his detailed briefing informed the participants of the meeting that flour would be sold at the subsidised rate of Rs 21 per kg in 10 kg bags for Rs 210.00 per bag.
Moreover, under the Sindh Government Ramazan Package 2011, 245,000 metric tonnes of wheat would be supplied to flour mills and there would be a total subsidy of Rs 2.25 billion borne by the provincial government.
