ISLAMABAD: In the federal capital, where more than 100 housing societies are operating, only four housing societies have a sewerage system, Pakistan Today learned on Wednesday from a reliable source in the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The source added that in previous terms, the civic agency had approved NOCs for these housing societies without obtaining the details of the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), creating huge problems for Islamabad.

The source further added that this negligence happened due to low performance and a poor vigilance system of the high-ups in CDA.

It is pertinent to mention here that CDA Chairman Aamir Ali Ahmad conducted a meeting with the owners of these housing societies on August 6, 2019, regarding this issue in which the owners were directed to establish an STP and solid waste system on war footing being part of the capital’s new master plan.

An official who attended the meeting but wished to remain anonymous told this scribe that unfortunately in Islamabad the mushroom growth of housing societies has created severe problems and the core issue among these many issues is the lack of an STP.

He added that only 36 housing societies owners had attended the meeting while the number of housing societies is above 100.

Moreover, a report of the environment wing suggests that various diseases are created due to contaminated groundwater in Islamabad.
