Alleged torture on Nisar Morai: SHC issues notices to IGP Prisons, home secretary

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Prisons Sindh, Home Secretary and others on a plea filed by wife of former chairman of Fishermen’s Cooperative Society, Nisar Morai, against alleged torture on him in the prison.

A SHC bench heard the plea filed by Dr Seema Morai, wife of Nisar, against the alleged torture on her husband in the prison. The court issued notices to respondents and sought reply from them till 15 August.

The counsel of the petitioner told the court that Nisar Morai had complained the prison’s official regarding the corruption practice in the prison. He said at least 20 people tortured on Morai at night.

He submitted to the bench that his client is suffering from sugar. His family is well educated and they have footages of torture.

Seema Morai stated before the bench that in judicial inquiry be conducted on this matter.

The petitioner said that her husband had complained to advisor prisons regarding the corruption of Nusrat Manghan in the prison. But, as the advisor prisons Sindh left prison, IGP prisons and others tortured her husband.

She said that her husband was transferred from Malir jail to Karachi Central Prison and during the transfer, deputy superintend of prison. Waliullah also tortured her husband.

She said her husband’s life was in danger so the court might take notice. She requested the court to stop jail management from torturing her husband.
