Islamabad IG briefs NA speaker over Irfan Siddiqui’s arrest

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar called on National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser at the parliament on Monday and briefed him on the arrest of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s close aide Irfan Siddiqui for allegedly violating the tenancy law.

On Sunday, Qaiser had summoned IG Zulfiqar to brief him about the matter.

During the meeting, the speaker expressed his regrets over handcuffing Irfan Siddiqui. The IGP said the investigation into the matter was underway.

“Every citizen has equal right of delivery of justice,” Qaiser said.

The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Brig (r) Ijaz Shah, chief commissioner and MNA Ali Nawaz Awan.

Earlier, the speaker made telephoned the interior minister and expressed his concern over the matter. He demanded thorough probe of arresting and handcuffing of Irfan Siddiqui on charges of violating the tenancy law.

Asad Qaiser noted that Irfan Siddique was a seasoned columnist and a renowned educationist whose arrest has raised concerns in the journalist fraternity.
