Seven dead as rain lashes KP, Punjab

At least seven people were killed and over 18 injured after rain lashed parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab on Sunday, inundating low-lying areas across the provinces.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), five people, including two children and a woman, were killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

On the hand, two deaths were reported in Punjab owing to the rain-related incident in addition to injuries to dozens.

As per reports, a roof collapse in Sargodha killed two children and injured one more. Five more roof collapse incidents were reported in Sheikhupura and officials placed the number of injured at 10.

According to the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), 54 millimetres (mm) of rain was recorded at Tajpura, 39mm at Lakhshmi Chok, 34mm in Pani Wala Talab, 33mm at Upper Mall, 32mm in Farrukhabad, 26mm in Mughalpura and 25mm at Chowk Nakhuda.

Several areas such as Davis Road, Lakshmi chowk, and several other roads became inundated due to excessive rainwater.

In Karachi, people had to suffer after power feeders tripped due to intermittent rain. As per details, major power breakdown was witnessed in Karachi’s Azizabad, Ayesha Manzil and other areas after tripping of K-Electric system. The rainwater has also flooded low-lying areas in aforementioned areas.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated widespread rains/wind-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, D.I Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Zhob divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir, while at scattered places in Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, at isolated places in Kalat, Multan, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.
