LAHORE: Dunya News has parted ways with musician-turned-actor Mohsin Abbas Haider, whose wife, Fatemah Sohail, has accused him of infidelity and domestic violence.

The announcement came a day after the Defence police registered a first information report (FIR) under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Haider late Tuesday night. The FIR included charges of hurling life threats on the complainant.

In the FIR, Fatemah has also revealed that the actor once asked her to give him Rs5 million which she had borrowed from her father. Instead of returning the money as promised, he asked for another Rs5 million after some time; however, she was beaten when she refused to give him more money.

Fatemah said that the beatings began a few days into the marriage and continued throughout, including her pregnancies.

Further, Dunya TV has on Wednesday announced its disassociation from Mohsin Abbas Haider – who worked as a DJ in popular programme Mazaaq Raat. The channel released a statement saying that the actor would not be reinstated until he is proven innocent and explained that the programmes being aired currently were recorded before allegations of abuse surfaced against him.

In a Facebook post on June 20, Fatema Sohail had accused her husband of adultery and physical abuse.

According to the post, after suspecting that Mohsin was cheating on her she finally caught him on November 26, 2018, and confronted him in a calm manner about the affair. However, on being caught red-handed, she said that Mohsin reacted in typical behaviour displayed by abusers, he beat her while she was heavily pregnant. “Instead of being embarrassed over his act, he pulled me from hair, dragged me on the floor, kicked me several times, punched me on face & threw me on the wall,” she said.

She explained that she had not come forward before because she was hopeful of saving her marriage and reluctant to cause her parents any sadness that may be caused by seeing her battered.

While recording his statement on Tuesday, Haider claimed that all the accusations against him are baseless and added that he was hopeful that the matter could be resolved with mutual understanding. “At the end of the day, it is a family matter,” said the actor whose neighbours in Lahore have claimed to witnesses to him dragging his wife to the road while beating her.

The couple married were in 2015 in a private affair. After one year of their marriage, it was widely speculated that the couple had parted ways but Mohsin took to social media to deny the rumours. On December 16, 2017, he revealed that their first child, daughter Mahveen Abbas Haider, had passed away at the age of one month. Later in May 2019, the Fatemah gave birth to a son.
