A prisoner in Mardan jail identified as Waheedullah succumbed to his injuries in the jail’s hospital on Monday.

According to local media reports, jail officials said that the criminals became a victim of an attack initiated by a group of fellow inmates after a verbal argument.

It was further reported that both Waheedullah and his attackers, who were from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), were serving jail terms on terrorism charges. Waheedullah had, however, been awarded 25 years for his crimes.

The victim had been shifted to the jail hospital in critical condition and the situation was brought to the notice of authorities concerned, whereas they had also been asked to make proper security arrangements so he could be shifted to a better hospital outside the jail, but their response was poorly timed.

A case has been filed against the alleged attackers.
