Sindh Governor appeals traders to call off strike

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Friday appealed to traders to call off the strike and continue their business as usual, media reported.

He said that smuggled goods when come in the local markets, they only serve a specific group while national exchequer gets nothing.

He insisted that at this time traders should understand the difficulties faced by the government and instead of going on a strike they should opt to take path of reconciliation along with the government so that their resentments can be addressed.

Earlier, Imran Ismail also met representatives of the Karachi Tajir Action Committee (KTAC), a body of the city’s traders, and persuaded them to call off their strike which they had announced against the increase in taxation.

Governor also met the family of Deputy Collector Customs Dr. Abdul Quddus Sheikh who was murdered by the smugglers in Quetta. He condoled with the family and prayed for the departed soul.

On this occasion he told media that government will not let smugglers continue with their activities and every possible action would be taken to put them behind bars.
