ISLAMABAD: As the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) is all set to take references against Supreme Court judge Qazi Faez Isa and Sindh High Court (SHC) judge KK Agha, Law Minister Dr Farogh Nasim has distributed Rs175 million of taxpayers money among 133 bar associations to gain their support in the case.
The lawyers are out on streets to protest the misconduct reference against Justice Isa, which they term mala fide.
Speaking on a show at Geo TV, Supreme Court Bar Association Pakistan (SCBA) president Amanullah Kanrani announced that representatives of different bar councils and bar associations will observe a black day on July 2.
Alluding to the doling out of funds, Amanullah said that even a blind man can recognise the motive behind the issuance of funds to the bar associations.
He further told that previously, governments never released the funds meant for the bar associations in full but this time they have already presented the cheques to the bars without creating any fuss.
It should be mentioned here that under Legal Practioner Act Section 57, it is the government’s prerogative to decide the amount or issuance of the funds.
The reference against Justice Isa will be heard by the Supreme Judicial Council(SJC) on July 2 and in response to which Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has decided to observe a “black day” across the country.
The five-member SJC will sit to hear the references against Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice KK Agha of the Sindh High Court (SHC).
