LAHORE: There is no room for corrupt and dishonest judges and stern disciplinary action would be taken if any such allegation is proved, Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry said on Friday. He made remarks while meeting Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) delegations at his chamber who called on him to congratulate him on becoming the LHC CJ. He asked the LHCBA, PbBC and other lawyers to point out corruption in the sub-ordinate judiciary including session and civil judges by sending clear proofs, if any, to the LHC office.
The LHC CJ assured lawyers that prompt action might be taken on all complaints against such judges. The LHCBA delegation led by President Abdul Qadoos assured the LHC CJ of full cooperation and hailed withdrawal of all cases against Lahore lawyers registered in tenure of former LHC CJ Khawaja Sharif.
Qadoos said that the LHCBA had played a conciliatory role after tensions arose between the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) and the former LHC CJ and the bar would continue playing the same positive role for reducing tensions, if any, between the bench and bar. The delegation assured the LHC CJ that the LHCBA would cooperate in early disposal of cases in light of the national judicial policy.
The PbBC delegation led by Vice Chairman Mumtaz Mustafa gave several proposals to the LHC CJ for improving provision of speedy justice to the masses and the LHC CJ assured that the proposals would be considered positively.
Mustafa said that session judges should continue coordinating with the PbBC for better understanding problems of the lawyers’ community and providing speedy justice to the masses. The delegation assured the LHC CJ of full cooperation saying that lawyers would continue their struggle for the rule of law and supremacy of the constitution.
