Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday moved an amendment in the National Assembly (NA) rules in order to limit an opposition leader’s speech to 45 minutes after Shehbaz Sharif rambled for hours during a post-budget session.

Pointing out that Shehbaz Sharif’s speech had been going on since morning with ‘no end in sight’, the minister tweeted, “this amounts to waste of taxpayers’ money and lawmakers time especially when he has nothing substantial.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader had been speaking for two hours.

During the session, NA speaker Asad Qaiser commented that Shehbaz had broken Khursheed Shah’s record for the longest speech, to which the PPP leader commented: “My record for NA speech is 4 hours 19 minutes. Shehbaz hasn’t broken my record yet. He has only spoken for 2 hours so far”.

Shehbaz Sharif continued speaking in the Lower House for over three hours altogether.
