ISLAMABAD: In a bid to gain maximum support for the passage of the federal budget 2019-2020, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday agreed to give another seat in the federal cabinet to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

The decision was taken in a late night meeting between PM Imran, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Law Minister Farogh Naseem at PM House.

However, it was not disclosed that which ministry will be offered to the MQM-P. Presently, the party has two federal ministries — law and information technology.

According to the PM office, a financial package will also be given to the mayors of Karachi and Hyderabad. PM Imran also formed a committee comprising the law minister and Sindh governor to implement the decisions taken in the meeting.

BILAWAL LAUDS MINISTRY FOR MQM-P:

Meanwhile, talking to media before the National Assembly session, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari lauded the decision and said that “it is a matter of happiness for me that someone from my province is getting a ministry [in the federal government]”.

Bilawal said that “I hope that all the promises Imran Khan has made to the country will be fulfilled,” while adding that “he [Khan] had promised a  desalination plant for Karachi”.

Despite the assurance of cooperation by the Sindh government, he has not fulfilled the promise, he said.

The PPP chairman further recalled that “Imran Khan promised a Karachi Package, but the funds allocated in there are not enough”. He also alleged that “the way the funds are being given is also illegal”.
